The Wednesday tour is nearly sold out so a Friday date has been added:
Wednesday 12 October 10.45 am (2 hours)
Friday 14 October 10.45 am (2 hours)
Due to the small size of the Gallery, we are limited to a maximum of fifteen people viewing the exhibition at one time. Therefore we are running two groups of fifteen. Group A will have a conducted tour of the exhibition in the Gallery for an hour followed by a walk around many of the locations in Cookham which were important to Stanley Spencer. Group B will do the walk followed by the exhibition.
The Stanley Spencer Gallery is devoted to the work of one of Britain’s greatest painters, a visionary artist whose name became synonymous with Cookham, the village he immortalised. The Gallery talk will take you around the exhibition, Delight in Nature, showing several of his landscape paintings and explaining how these supported his visionary work.
The village walk is a gentle stroll around many of the locations important to Stanley Spencer, including his birthplace and the location of many of his most famous works, including his Resurrection in Cookham Churchyard, and Christ Preaching at Cookham Regatta.
