The Wooburn Festival was originally conceived over 56 years ago by one of Britain’s leading orchestral conductors, the late Richard Hickox CBE.
Richard’s vision was to bring orchestras and musicians of international repute to the Chilterns and Thames Valley.
His objective was to encourage wider public access to affordable high quality music that was within easy reach of the local community.
From the Festival’s humble beginnings it has become an established and well loved event in the Chilterns and Thames Valley calendar.
Richard Hickox decided to raise money for St Paul’s Church, Wooburn where his father was vicar.
The Church was in urgent need of repairs to the the roof which was leaking badly.
From this practical beginning the Wooburn Festival was born and is now preparing for its 56th season.
