The Wooburn Festival Visual Arts Exhibition is at the heart of the Wooburn Festival. St. Paul’s Church Hall is converted into a professional and vibrant art gallery showing original paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass and jewellery from the best artists in the Chilterns and beyond.
We are delighted that this year the renown letter sculptor Annet Stirling has agreed to be our featured artist. Annet trained as a graphic designer in the Netherlands, studied lettering at the City and Guilds of London Art School with Berthold Wolpe, then worked for Richard Kindersley.
In 1988 she formed Incisive Letterwork with Brenda Berman, focusing on large-scale architectural inscriptions and ‘word sculpture’, working extensively with Ian Hamilton Finlay designing and overseeing major projects in Glasgow, Hamburg and Karlsruhe. ‘Incisive’ travelled throughout Italy on a Churchill Fellowship studying Roman and Renaissance inscriptions and have held several solo exhibitions exploring the boundaries of legibility and abstraction in letterform.
At her Amersham studio Annet makes exhibition pieces and headstones alongside commercial commissions which have included amongst others designing and carving lettering for The National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Opera House. She has co-curated 2 exhibitions at the Lettering Arts Centre and is treasurer of Letter Exchange and a member of the Buckinghamshire Craft Guild.
